Hollywood is full of sad stories about the lives of stars who shine so brightly at the start of their careers and end in tragedy. Dorothy Dandrige is one of those sad stories. Without knowledge of her personal life, she might have seemed like one of the luckiest women in the world. A child from Cleveland who makes a name for herself at the Cotton Club and then gets chosen to be a Hollywood screen star.

But Hollywood didn’t know what to do with Dorothy and she didn’t know what to do with herself. This conundrum made her practically unemployable.
