Shapley had been picked by Elon Musk to run the IRS, but did not receive Bessent’s blessing. Deputy Treasury Secretary Michael Faulkender is now expected to take on the role of acting commissioner. NBC’s Vaughn Hillyard reports for Saturday TODAY from the White House.
