0:21Now PlayingWhen Stephanie and Nick McArthur sat down at their daughter's second grade parent/teacher conference, they were thrilled to see the semester's big project: a 15-page collated story.
And then they read it.
"Has your mom ever left?" 7-year-old Gwen had written. "Well, mine has. Let me tell you a little about that."
Initially surprised and confused, the parents read through the rest of the story about Stephanie "leaving" her family for what seemed like quite a long time. "It is not fun when your mom goes away," Gwen wrote.
Stephanie did not, in fact, abandon her three children.
She had been out to dinner — on a party bus! — with other moms for a good friend’s 40th birthday party. In the meantime, the kids had a ball with their “hands-on ‘Super Dad,’” Stephanie told TODAY.com.
