Savannah Guthrie Weighs In on Whether Mom Nancy Guthrie Was Targeted: 'If It's Me, I'm So Sorry'

Savannah Guthrie says that her brother believed from the beginning that their missing mother Nancy Guthrie was “kidnapped for ransom” after her initial disappearance overnight on Jan. 31.

In her first interview since police said Nancy was taken from her home against her will, Savannah told Hoda Kotb that her brother, Camron, who she says was a fighter pilot in the military, “saw very clearly right away, what this was.”

Savannah told Hoda in her sit-down interview on TODAY that “we still don’t know” if her mother was targeted.

“I don’t know that it’s because she’s my mom and somebody thought, ‘Oh, that girl — that lady has money. We can ... make a quick buck,’” she said. “I mean, that would make sense. But we don’t know.”

But Savannah said the thought that she “brought this to her bedside” is “too much to bear.”

Addressing her family, Savannah continued, “I’d just say I’m so sorry, Mommy. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry to my sister and my brother and my kids and my nephew and Tommy, my brother-in-law. I’m just — I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. If it is me, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.”

The Guthrie family is offering a $1 million reward for the return of Nancy. The FBI is also offering a $100,000 reward and encouraging anyone with information to call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
