Florida Woman Cries for her Baby During DUI Arrest

During the early morning hours of December 24, 2022 (Christmas Eve), Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted a vehicle driving erratically on Caroline Street in Milton, Florida. Deputies eventually activated their lights, and the vehicle came to a stop in front of Zaxby’s restaurant. The driver, later identified as 24-year-old Alexis Porter, was asked if she had been drinking. She initially responded that she had not been drinking a lot, and that she was coming from her friend’s house.

Porter seemed incoherent and did not seem to know where she was. When Porter was asked for her insurance, she showed the Deputy her registration instead. She also had slurred speech and she displayed watery eyes and a lack of coordination. After she was asked to exit the vehicle, the Deputy asked Porter if she had any pants on.

Porter was asked to perform standardized field sobriety exercises, including the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk and Turn test, and One Leg Stand test. She was unable to perform any of the tests in a satisfactory manner. Based on her appearance and inability to perform the field sobriety tests, Porter was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

After she was placed in the police car and Deputies began to search her vehicle, she managed to slip through the handcuffs. She continued to act belligerent towards the Deputies when they attempted to contact someone who could retrieve the vehicle, and they ultimately decided to tow the vehicle instead. After her belongings were retrieved, the Deputy took Porter to the Santa Rosa County Jail for further processing.
