Unlicensed Woman Arrested for THIRD DWI in the SAME Town

Shortly after midnight on January 31, 2023, Vineland Police were called to the Wawa at 1935 W Landis Avenue in Vineland, New Jersey with a report of an apparently intoxicated female sitting in a vehicle. As Officer Morales approached the vehicle, he was immediately able to identify the driver as 22-year-old Yaquelin Lopez-Lopez because he had recently responded to ANOTHER DWI incident involving the SAME driver! In fact, she has been arrested THREE times for DWI between December of 2022 and January of 2023 in the SAME town.

He proceeded to tell the driver that they had received a call that she was consuming alcohol outside of her car, and asked her where she was headed. Lopez-Lopez admitted to drinking alcohol earlier and the officers could see empty bottles of alcohol in her vehicle. Lopez-Lopez initially insisted that she only drank those bottles of alcohol at home, not in her vehicle. Afterwards, she was asked to step outside of the vehicle.

Officer Morales afforded her the opportunity to perform field sobriety exercises. He started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. This test was followed by the Walk and Turn test, which she was unable to complete satisfactorily. The final test involved the One Leg Stand, and she later indicated that she was not willing to complete that test.

Based on the empty bottles of alcoholic beverages in her vehicle, her apparent state of impairment, and her failure to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Officer Morales placed Lopez-Lopez under arrest for driving under the influence. When she was taken in for processing, she refused to take a breathalyzer test. Lopez-Lopez was later released with a court summons for the following citations: Operating under the influence, reckless driving, driving without a license, open container of alcohol, failure to report accident, unsafe lane change, leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.
