1:02:02Now PlayingAround 12:41 AM on July 2, 2023, Deputy Brown of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office was working a special assignment at Froggy’s Bar in Lakeview, Ohio. He was approached by four witnesses who informed him that another driver in a white Ram pickup truck had struck another vehicle in the parking lot near Acheson’s Resort. He asked for another unit to come on scene, and Deputy Greg Praither and Deputy Boyd arrived around 12:58 AM. Deputy Praither proceeded to make contact with the driver of the pickup truck, who was identified as 26-year-old Hannah Johnson.
Deputy Praither asked Hannah her how much she had to drink, and she responded by admitting to consuming at least 6 drinks in the hours prior. She seemed unaware that she had struck another parked vehicle and her statements were inconsistent. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Deputy Praither afforded Hannah an opportunity to perform standardized field sobriety exercises, and she agreed to do so.
The first field sobriety exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, Deputy Praither observed a lack of smooth pursuit, and distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation. The second exercise involved the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Hannah was unable to maintain her position and failed to complete the test. Deputy Prather then asked Hannah to perform the One Leg Stand test. Since she was unable to assume the starting position for the One Leg Stand test, Deputy Praither terminated the field sobriety exercises.
Based on the witness statements and Hannah’s inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Deputy Praither her under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). After she was placed under arrest, Deputy Praither and Deputy Boyd searched her vehicle, and found a large amount of cash inside. Hannah was subsequently transported to the Logan County Jail for processing. Once she was in the breathalyzer room in the jail, Hannah was repeatedly using profanity against the Deputies and eventually proceeded to vomit in a trash can. After the observation was complete, Deputy Praither read Hannah the BMV/2255 form and she agreed to submit to chemical testing.
Her breathalyzer test results indicated a BAC of 0.166%, which is more than double the legal limit. After she was processed at the Logan County Jail, her license was taken and she was released pending her first court appearance. She was issued the following citations: OVI, OVI with a BAC over 0.08%, and failure to control
