Repeat DWI Offender Arrested AGAIN After Stealing from Target

Around 4:45 PM on August 25, 2023, officers with the Township of Ocean Police Department were alerted that two female shoplifters had left the Target store at 2331 SR-66. Officer Kyle Kane was patrolling the area and he spotted a female with a black bag who matched the description in front of the Ford dealership on 900 NJ-35. He exited his patrol car and informed the suspect that she was under arrest, but she dropped the shopping bag full of stolen items and attempted to flee the scene. She initially resisted arrest, but Officer Kane was eventually able to put the handcuffs on. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Hannah Papendick.

Around this time, another officer arrived on scene and questioned Hannah about whether she had paid for all the items in her bag. Hannah told the officer that the person responsible for the shoplifting was her fiancée Katherine, and that she had been staying with Katherine and her friend at the Chalet Motel. Officer Kane placed Hannah in the patrol car and transported her back to police HQ for further processing.

In the meantime, the other officers returned to the Target on 2331 SR-66 with the stolen items. At Target, one of the officers watched as a store associate scanned the stolen items to determine their value, while another officer reviewed the surveillance footage confirming that Hannah and her fiancée Katherine were observed leaving the store without paying for the items in question.

Once the officers confirmed that the other person in question had also shoplifted, they decided to visit the Chalet Motel nearby to see if their other suspect was in her room. The door was answered by one of her friends who initially told the officers that she was not there. The officers told her that if they were not able to find Katherine so they could process her and release her with a summons, they would put a warrant out for her arrest and she would be taken to jail instead. When faced with this realization, the woman called for Katherine and she exited the motel room. Katherine was also placed under arrest and transported to police HQ for further processing.

Court records indicate that Hannah has multiple prior arrests for DWI as well as shoplifting. Arrest records indicate that Hannah was charged with the following offenses: shoplifting retail value between $500-$74,999 (2C:20-11B(2)), resisting arrest (2C:29-2A(1)), and obstruction of justice (2C:29-1A)
