as posted by the channelAround 2:11 AM on August 17, 2022, Officer Terelle Norman with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department observed a 2015 Mazda 3 driving east on Oak Street without illuminated headlights. He initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over inside the Shell gas station at 1290 Oconee Street. He made contact with the driver, who was identified as 21-year-old Macie. As he was speaking with Macie, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed indicators of impairment.
Macie told the officer that she was coming from a staffing meeting at General’s bar, where she worked as a bartender. She initially admitted to consuming 3 beers, but then recanted and only admitted to having 2 beers. Officer Norman asked Macie to perform field sobriety exercises, but she declined. Based on the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her refusal to perform field sobriety exercises, Officer Norman placed Macie under arrest for driving under the influence.
After Macie was placed under arrest, she refused to submit breath samples but did agree to submit blood samples for testing. She was initially transported to Piedmont Area Regional Medical Center (PARMC), where a blood draw was administered. Officer Norman then transported Macie to the Clarke-County Jail and she was issued the following summonses: DUI – Alcohol – Less Safe (40-6-391(a)(1)) and Headlights (40-8-22)
