Nanny Arrested for Stealing From Hoboken ShopRite

Around 6:11 PM on August 5, 2023, Officers Anthony Azzoline and Dominick Allegretta with the Hoboken Police Department responded to a report of a shoplifting at ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. They entered the store around 6:16 PM and walked upstairs to the loss prevention office. In the loss prevention office, they met with the loss prevention officer as well as the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as 43-year-old Katherine.

The loss prevention officer informed the officers that he saw the woman start concealing items inside her personal shopping cart around 4:56 PM. He continued to observe her on the surveillance system until she approached the self-checkout line at 5:51 PM. At the self-checkout aisle, Katherine did pay for approximately $90 worth of items using a credit card, while attempting to leave without paying for an additional $229.18 worth of items.

The officers were provided with an itemized receipt of the value of the items she had allegedly attempted to steal. Based on the value of the items she had stolen, the store decided to press charges against her. Officer Allegretta placed Katherine under arrest for shoplifting. She was handcuffed and escorted to the patrol car.

Katherine was transported to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. At police HQ, she was searched in more detail by Officer Lee. Katherine was finger printed and photographed her. She was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1) and released pending her court appearance.

Court records indicate that on December 19, 2023, Katherine entered no plea in court, and the original charge under 2C:20-11B(1) was amended to Disturbing the Peace (145-1). Katherine also paid a total of $283 in fines.
