Man Arrested for Second DWI After Sleeping in his Car in Red Bank, NJ

On July 16, 2024 around 11:30 PM, officers with the Red Bank Police Department observed a man behind the wheel of a 2008 Audi sleeping in his vehicle in the vicinity of Elm Place and Spring Street. They made contact with the driver, who was identified as 24-year-old Shavani Green. He was asked to exit the vehicle so the officers could investigate further. They asked him how much he had to drink, and he admitted to consuming alcohol at a bar before operating a motor vehicle.

Shortly afterwards, Patrolman Cahill arrived on scene to administer field sobriety exercises. He started started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, and he noticed indicators of impairment. The second exercise he was asked to perform was the Walk and Turn test but he refused to perform further field sobriety tests.

Based on him sleeping in his car, his admission to consuming alcohol, and his inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Shavani was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After he was placed under arrest, Shavani was transported to the Red Bank Police Department for further processing. He was issued the following traffic tickets: Operating under the influence, refusal to submit to chemical test, reckless driving, careless driving, use of hand-held wireless telephones, and open container

Court records indicate that Shavani had previously been arrested for DWI in Shrewsbury, New Jersey on March 20, 2024. He was later arrested again for his third DWI in Keansburg, New Jersey on September 9, 2024.
