Drunk Woman With an Attitude Gets Another DUI After Leaving Ibiza Nightclub

On December 3, 2023 at approximately 12:55 AM, Officer Jonathan Haske with the Waukegan Police Department observed a white Infiniti speeding without headlights as it was headed southbound on Genesse Road near the intersection with Lake Street. Commander Oliver activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop after the driver turned westbound onto Lake Street. Officer Haske made contact with the passenger of the Infiniti as Commander Oliver made contact with the driver. The driver was identified as Vanessa.

Vanessa admitted to coming from Ibiza in Waukegan. Officer Haske asked Vanessa to exit the vehicle. As he was speaking with Vanessa, he observed other indicators of impairment. Vanessa admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening. The officer asked Vanessa to perform field sobriety exercises. He was about to administer the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, but she ultimately refused all field sobriety exercises. Afterwards, Officer Hasked placed Vanessa in handcuffs and informed her that she was under arrest for DUI.

Officer McElroy arrived on scene to transport Vanessa to the Waukegan Police Department. After some hesitation, Vanessa eventually got in the squad car and she was transported to the station by Officer McElroy. Officer Haske responded to the police station and offered Vanessa another opportunity to perform field sobriety exercises. She agreed to perform the field sobriety exercises at the station.

Officer Haske started with the HGN test, and he observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. He also observed vertical nystagmus. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test, but she refused. She also refused the One Leg Stand test. The final exercise was the Modified Romberg Balance test, and she agreed to perform that test.

Around 2:45 AM, the Warning to Motorist form was read to her, and she agreed to submit breath samples for testing. Her breathalyzer results revealed a BAC level of 0.146%, which was above the legal limit of 0.08%. She was eventually released station pending her court appearance, and Officer Haske gave her a ride home. Vanessa was cited for DUI (625ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)), DUI BAC of over 0.08 (625 ILCS5/11-501(a)(1)), driving without headlamps (625ILCS 5/12-201(d)), and illegal transportation of alcohol (625ILCS 5/11-502(a))

Court records indicate that Vanessa was subsequently arrested again DUI by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Waukegan, Illinois on June 22, 2024. She has additional arrests for driving with a suspended license in Lake Forest, Illinois on May 16, 2024 as well as another arrest for retail theft in Waukegan, Illinois on May 12, 2024.
