Woman Arrested Again for DWI After Causing 3-Car Crash With Injuries

Around 10:12 PM on September 1, 2023, Patrolman Ryan Vanaman with the Highland Park Police Department was conducting traffic enforcement on Raritan Avenue. He heard a loud crash and looked in his rearview mirror as a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro struck a planter, road sign, as well as a utility pole. He radioed the motor vehicle crash into police communications and first made contact with the driver of the Camaro, who was identified as Lindsay. In addition to the Camaro, he observed 2 other vehicles on Woodbridge Avenue near the intersection with S 8th Avenue.

As he was speaking with Lindsay, he observed indicators of impairment. He then walked over to speak with the driver of a black 2011 Honda Civic as well as the driver of a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The driver of the Toyota was transported to the hospital while the driver of the Honda complained of pain but declined transport to the hospital. Their investigation would later reveal that Lindsay struck the Honda as the driver proceeded to make a left turn on to S 8th Avenue, and the force of the collision led him to strike the Toyota that was coming in the opposite direction. The driver of the Camaro continued driving until striking the other objects.

Patrolman Kevin Garrity arrived on scene around 10:39 PM to assist with the field sobriety exercises. When Patrolman Garrity made contact with Lindsay, he asked her if she had anything to drink, and she admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening. Patrolman Garrity started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Further field sobriety tests could not be administered due to her lack of cooperation, and he terminated further testing for safety reasons.

Based on the motor vehicle crash, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Lindsay was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After she was placed under arrest and placed in the patrol car, her vehicle was impounded according to John’s Law. Patrolman Garrity transported Lindsay to the Highland Park Police Department for further processing. At the station, Lindsay was searched by Officer Suarez with the Rutgers Police and secured to the bench. After a few minutes, she began to have a panic attack. First responders arrived at the station and transported her to RWJUH for further treatment. The officers obtained a warrant for a blood draw, so her blood was drawn at the hospital and entered into evidence. After they were finished with their paperwork, Lindsay was released to the care of RWJUH staff and her charges were mailed to her.

Lindsay was cited for operating under the influence, reckless driving, consuming an alcoholic beverage inside a motor vehicle, open container, failure to keep right, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and driving with an expired license. Lindsay was also criminally charged with assault by auto (2 counts under 2C:12-1C(2), 1 count under 2C:35-10A(1), and 1 count under 2C:35-10.5E(2)). Court records indicate that Lindsay had previously gotten a DWI in Clark, New Jersey on January 19, 2018. She had also been cited for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident and allegedly failing to report an accident on January 19, 2018. After being cited for operating under the influence in Clark, New Jersey on January 19, 2018, Lindsay later pleaded guilty to operating under the influence on September 12, 2018.
