Drunk Woman With Suspended License Arrested for DWI After Swerving Into Oncoming Traffic

Second DWI Arrest

Around 4:00 AM on March 3, 2024, Patrolman Brad Keyes with the Roxbury Township Police Department observed a 2010 Lincoln MKX swerving into oncoming traffic on Route 46 West. He activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop on Parks Road. He made contact with the driver, who was identified as Cristina Jasso-Olvera. As he was speaking with Cristina, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Cristina was unable to provide the officer with a valid license, and the officers would later learn that her license was already suspended.

After additional officers arrived on scene, she was asked to exit the vehicle. She admitted to consuming alcohol at a bar earlier that evening, and she told the officers that she was headed to her friend’s house. Based on their suspicion of impairment, Cristina was asked to perform field sobriety exercises. She refused to perform field sobriety exercises, and she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. A search of her vehicle incident to arrest yielded an open container of Twisted Tea. Patrolman Tumer remained on scene until Cristina’s vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John’s Law.

Cristina was transported to the Netcong State Police barracks for the administration of the breath test. At NJSP barracks, Cristina was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she initially agreed to submit breath samples. Trooper Rosenberger administered the Alcotest machine, but she refused to submit adequate samples despite 8 separate attempts. She was charged eventually with a refusal.

She was subsequently transported back to the Roxbury Township Police Department. The officers eventually drover her to her friend’s house and released her to a friend after they signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Cristina’s behalf. Patrolman Keyes issued Cristina the following citations: Operating under the influence, refusal to submit to chemical test, consent to take samples of breath, reckless driving, traffic on marked lanes, failure to possess driver license, and driving with a suspended license

Cristina was later arrested again for another DWI in Rockaway Borough on May 23, 2024.

Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
