Serial Thief Arrested After Trying to Steal $1,404.94 Worth from Dick's Sporting Goods

Around 5:05 PM on September 21, 2023, Officers Matthew Tilton, David James, and with the Cherry Hill Police Department responded to a report of a shoplifting in progress at Dick’s Sporting Goods on 2130 Route 70 W. They first made contact with a store employee who informed them that they noticed a woman removing security sensors off their merchandise in the fitting room before attempting to conceal them in a tote bag. Store employees waited outside the fitting room and retrieved $825 worth of items to store staff. However, she still kept $579.94 worth of items.

The officers walked back towards the Boys section and made contact with the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as Danielle Gagne. Danielle claimed that she had to remove the tags in order to try them on. She admitted to removing the tags off of 2 items. However, store employees told the officers that they found numerous broken sensors inside the fitting room while there were none prior to her entering.

Danielle was placed under the arrest and escorted to the patrol car. She was transported to the Cherry Hill Police Department for further processing. Danielle was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(3) and released pending her court appearance. An officer gave Danielle a ride back to her car in the parking lot of Dick’s Sporting Goods following her release.

Court records indicate that on September 5, 2024, the shoplifting charge was downgraded to an ordinance violation for disturbing the peace (5-12.7). As a result of her plea agreement, Danielle had to pay a total of $530 in fines.

Danielle had previously been arrested for shoplifting in Mantua Township on September 19, 2018 and in Winslow Township for having shoplifted on May 14, 2016. She has prior arrests for simple assault (2C:12-1A) in Wildwood, New Jersey on July 1, 2013 as well as possession (2C:35-10.5E(2)) in Mantua Township on October 9, 2013. Danielle was later arrested again for shoplifting in Mantua Township on December 24, 2023, and this was followed by yet another shoplifting arrest in Deptford Township on November 21, 2024.
