Bartender Blows DOUBLE the Limit After a Bulls Game

On February 5, 2025 at approximately 1:30 AM, Officer Erin DeVries with the Downers Grove Police Department observed a blue 2024 Nissan Kicks speeding at 55 MPH in a 35 MPH zone while headed westbound on Ogden Avenue near Woodward Avenue. A white Toyota Prius was also following closely behind the Nissan Kicks. She activated her emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop at Ogden Avenue and Authority Drive and the vehicle came to a stop at Ogden Avenue and I-355.

She made contact with the driver of the Nissan, who was identified as 25-year-old Alexis Wroblewski. As she was speaking with Alexis, she detected the odor of alcohol and observed an open High Noon Seltzer can inside the vehicle. Alexis told the officer that she was headed back home after attending a Chicago Bulls game. She was exhibiting indicators of impairment, and she admitted to drinking alcohol earlier that evening.

Officer DeVries first asked Alexis to recite the alphabet from “E” to “W,” but she was unable to do so in the correct sequence. She was subsequently unable to count backwards from “56” to “49” as well. After Deputy Kanis with the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to assist, Alexis was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.

The first field sobriety exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer DeVries observed the lack of smooth pursuit and distinct, sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. She also observed vertical gaze nystagmus in both tyes. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Alexis did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and failed to keep her arms at her sides. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Alexis failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and did not count in the correct sequence.

Following the field sobriety exercises, Officer DeVries offered Alexis an opportunity to submit to a PBT, and the results indicated a BAC level of 0.181%. Based on her erratic driving, her admission to consuming alcohol, the open container, her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, and the results of the PBT, Officer DeVries placed Alexis under arrest for driving under the influence.

After she was handcuffed, Alexis was placed in the patrol car and transported to the Downers Grove Police Department for further processing. At the Downers Grove Police Department, the Warning to Motorist form was read to Alexis and she agreed to provide breath samples. Her breathalyzer test results indicated a BAC level of 0.165%, which was approximately double the legal limit of 0.08%. She also agreed to answer questions, and admitted to drinking vodka and tequila earlier that evening. After they finished processing Alexis, she was later released around 3:45 AM and allowed to take an Uber ride home.

Alexis was charged with the following:

-Driving under the influence - BAC .08 or more (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1))

-Driving under the influence - alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2))

-Transportation or possession of open alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-502(a))

-Speeding (625 ILCS 5/11-601(b))
