Aspiring Flight Attendant Arrested for DUI After Lying to Deputy

On April 7, 2024 at approximately 2:43 AM, Sergeant Michael Jordan with the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office observed a silver 2023 Toyota Corolla driving too slow and swerving across lanes while headed east on Main Street. He drove towards the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on E Main Street near SE Forest Way. The driver was identified as 20-year-old Paige Dominy.

As he was speaking with Paige, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed indicators of impairment. He asked Paige how much she had to drink, and she insisted that she did not drink anything. After Deputy Cory Alcantar arrived on scene to assist, Paige was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises.

The first field sobriety exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Sergeant Jordan observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. He did not observe vertical nystagmus. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Paige turned improperly and did not count each step in the correct sequence. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Paige failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete.

Following the field sobriety exercises, Paige was offered the opportunity to submit to a PBT. The results of the PBT indicated a BAC level of 0.132%, which was well over the legal limit of 0.02% for drivers under 21. Based on her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises, and the results of the PBT, Paige was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.

Sergeant Jordan transported her to the Pullman Police Department for further processing. She initially asked to speak with an attorney. After speaking with an attorney, Sergeant Jordan read her the implied consent warning and she agreed to submit breath samples. Her first breath test results indicated a BAC level of IR 0.122 and EC 0.123, while her second breath test results indicated a BAC level of IR 0.119 and EC 0.122. After the Alcotest was administered, Sergeant Jordan cited Paige for DUI (RCW 46.61.502) and released her pending her court appearance.
