Serial Thief Gives Cops a Fake Name After Stealing Bed Sheets From Walmart

Around 10:27 AM on October 7, 2022, Patrolman Tirik Clouden with the Audubon Police Department responded to a report of a female shoplifter at Walmart on 130 Black Horse Pike. He made contact with 2 shoplifting suspects in the parking lot. Sergeant Evans arrived on scene shortly afterwards. The loss prevention employee informed the officers that the woman had attempted to steal bed sheets from Walmart.

The woman was later identified as Kyleigh Mathias, but she initially gave Sergeant Evans a fake name. Kyleigh has multiple prior arrests for stealing as well. She admitted to stealing along with her alleged co-conspirator Joseph Sumler, but claimed it was because they had lost all their belongings. The officers were informed that the store wanted to pursue charges against Kyleigh. Based on their surveillance footage and the store’s decision to press charges, Kyleigh was placed under arrest for shoplifting.

Sergeant Evans transported Kyleigh to the Audubon Police Department for further processing. She was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(2) and released pending her court appearance on October 20, 2022. On September 20, 2024, Kyleigh pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking (2C:20-3A) and paid a total of $233 in fines.

Kyleigh’s previous arrests include arrests in Camden, New Jersey on July 28, 2019, Runnemede, New Jersey on February 12, 2019, Millville, New Jersey on July 19, 2016, and Bridgeton, New Jersey on March 19, 2014. Kyleigh was later arrested again in Mantua Township, New Jersey on September 13, 2024.
