Mom Arrested for Stealing Period Products for her Daughter at Hoboken ShopRite

Around 7:22 PM on June 15, 2025, officers with the Hoboken Police Department were dispatched to a report of a shoplifting at ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. An officer first arrived on scene around 7:29 PM and walked upstairs to the loss prevention office. The alleged shoplifter was identified as 33-year-old Alijha Garcia. She tried to justify her actions by claiming that she could not afford to pay for period products for her daughter.

A receipt printout of all the items that Alijha attempted to steal indicated that the total value of unpaid items was $113. Items that she attempted to steal included period products, shampoos, seafood, and meats.

Shortly afterwards, Officer Marc Lombardi placed Alijha under arrest for shoplifting. Alijha was handcuffed and escorted to the patrol car. He transported her to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. She was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1) and released pending her court appearance.
