Drunk Girl Flips her Car After Speeding and gets Arrested for DWI

Around 3:50 AM on June 29, 2025, Sergeant Daniel Grossi with the Hoboken Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Grand Street on a report of a motor vehicle that was flipped over. He arrived on scene and observed that a white 2022 Subaru was flipped sideways in the middle of the road and that 2 other parked vehicles had been struck. He made contact with the driver of the Subaru, and she was identified as Karol Bacuilima.

Sergeant Harold Milne and Officers Zackary Guido, Matthew Bonanno, Joshua Campoverde, Sheynna Vega, and Michael Aviles arrived on scene shortly afterwards to assist. As the officers were speaking with her, they detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. First responders were called to the scene to evaluate her, but she refused medical attention. Based on their suspicion of impairment, Officer Guido asked Karol to perform field sobriety exercises.

Officer Guido started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Karol did not touch heel-to-toe on each step and turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Karol failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete.

Based on motor vehicle crash, her indicators of impairment, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Karol was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Witnesses later told the officers that she was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. After she was placed under arrest, the vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John’s Law. The officers transported Karol to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing.

At police headquarters, Karol was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, but she refused to submit breath samples. After the officers were finished with their paperwork, Karol was released to a sober adult pending her court appearance after they signed the Potential Liability Warning form in Karol’s behalf.

Karol was issued the following citations:

-Operating under the influence

-Reckless driving

-Consent to take samples of breath

-Refusal to submit to chemical test

-Failure to possess driver insurance card
