Girl Steals From Hotel Room and Hides in the Woods

Around 12:13 PM on December 4, 2024, Officer Maurice Moulton with the Tallahassee Police Department was dispatched to the La Quinta Inn at 2905 North Monroe Street to investigate a possible larceny. Officer Sexton had previously responded to the hotel spoken with the manager. The manager informed him that a white female had entered a room while a housekeeper was cleaning the room. The housekeeper saw her steal clothing from the hotel, and the manager provided Officer Sexton with a description of the alleged thief.

Shortly afterwards, Officer Moulton located a white female matching the description near the Chevron parking lot at 2751 North Monroe Street. When she saw the officer, she began to run and attempted to hide inside a wooded area near the hotel. Officer Moulton pointed his taser towards the alleged suspect, and told her to not move. He made contact with the female, placed her in handcuffs, and escorted her out of the wooded area. The female was later identified as 23-year-old Sarah Wells.

A search of Sarah’s belongings indicated that she was in possession of paraphernalia. While the officers were still investigating whether or not they had probable cause to charge her for the alleged theft at the hotel, they discovered that she already had a warrant for her arrest out of Bay County. She also attempted to flee from the officer, so they could charge her with resisting.

Sarah was placed in the patrol car, transported to the Leon County Jail, and booked in. In addition to her warrant, Sarah was charged with the following:

-Resisting officer without violence (843.02)

-Possession of paraphernalia (893.147(1))
