Rude and Obnoxious Girl Causes 3-Car Crash Before DWI Arrest

Around 5:47 PM on March 23, 2025, Officers Michael Sammarone, Charles Keenan, Eric Cachola, and Tyler Griffin with the Elmwood Park Police Department responded to the area of Elmwood Terrace and Mola Boulevard on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Officer Keenan first initiated contact with the driver of a black 2013 Honda Accord, who was later identified as 23-year-old Brianna Martinez. There was airbag deployment and severe front-end damage on her car, and it was apparent that her vehicle struck a parked 2016 Honda Accord and 2024 Kia Sportage.

Brianna was evaluated by first responders due to the airbag deployment, but she declined to be transported to the hospital. As the officers were speaking with Brianna, they detected the odor and observed other indicators of impairment. Based on their suspicion of impairment, Brianna was asked to perform field sobriety exercises.

The first exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn. During the Walk and Turn test, Brianna failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, but it was terminated early due to her lack of cooperation.

Based on the motor vehicle crash, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Officer Sammarone placed Brianna under arrest for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Sammarone transported Brianna to the Elmwood Park Police Department for further processing.

At the Elmwood Park Police Department, Brianna was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, but refused to submit breath samples. During the whole time she was being processed, Brianna was extremely rude to the officers. When the officers were finished with processing her, Brianna was released to a friend pending her court appearance after he signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Brianna’s behalf.

Brianna was issued the following traffic citations:

-Operating under the influence (39:4-50)

-Taking of breath samples (39:3-10.24)

-Refusal to submit to chemical test (39:4-50.4A)

-Reckless driving (39:4-96)

-Careless driving (39:4-97)

-Traffic on marked lanes – unsafe lane change (39:4-88B)

-Careless driving no accident involving personal injury (19:9-1.17)

-Unsafe operation of a vehicle (39:4-97.2)

-Failure to make repairs (39:8-4)

-Vehicle in unsafe condition (39:3-44)

On December 2, 2025, Brianna pleaded guilty to operating under the influence. As a result of her guilty plea, Brianna had to spend 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center, use an ignition interlock device for 3 months, and pay a total of $640 in fines. The other 9 citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement arranged by her public defender.
