Drunk Girl Almost Kills a Pedestrian After Exiting a Parking Lot Near a Bar

Around 10:37 PM on October 10, 2025, Officer Leo Bertoldi with the Elmwood Park Police Department first responded to Market Street between Van Riper Avenue and Mulberry Street on a report of a motor vehicle accident. He arrived on scene and noticed a 28-year-old female laying down on her back in the crosswalk. She was complaining of back pain, and first responders later transported her to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for further treatment.

Officer Darla Kertesz arrived on scene shortly afterwards and made contact with the driver of the 2006 Toyota Camry who allegedly struck the victim. The driver was identified as 22-year-old Angelina Scano. She told the officers that she was making a right turn out of the parking lot at 179 Market Street after leaving the Blue 42 Restaurant and Bar on 158 Market Street. As she made a right turn and headed westbound on Market Street, she entered the crosswalk and struck the victim with her vehicle. This accident occurred very close to the police station.

Lieutenant Robert Centkowski then arrived on scene and observed indicators of impairment in the driver. He asked Angelina how much she had to drink. Based on his suspicion of impairment, he asked Angelina to perform field sobriety exercises.

The first exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn. During the Walk and Turn test, Angelina failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step and turned improperly. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Angelina failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion, did not count in the correct sequence, and put her foot down before the test was complete.

Based on the motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Officer Kertesz placed Angelina under arrest for driving under the influence. Her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Officer Kertesz transported Angelina to the Elmwood Park Police Department for further processing.

At the Elmwood Park Police Department, Angelina was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and agreed to submit breath samples. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC level of 0.14%, which was almost double the legal limit of 0.08%. Since this case involved a pedestrian, Angelina was asked to submit to a blood test as well. She consented to the blood test, and the officers transported her to the hospital so that her blood could be drawn. Her blood test results would later indicate a BAC level of 0.121%.

Following the blood draw, Angelina was transported back to the Elmwood Park Police Department. When the officers were finished with processing her, Angelina was released to a sober adult pending her court appearance after they signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Angelina’s behalf.

Angelina was issued the following traffic citations:

-Operating under the influence (39:4-50)

-Reckless driving (39:4-96)

-Careless driving (39:4-97)

-Failure to yield to pedestrian (39:4-32C)

Angelina was also criminally charged with assault by auto by operating a motor vehicle under the influence (2C:12-1C(2)). As of January 7, 2026, Angelina’s case is still pending in court.
