Rich Woman Arrested for Stealing Steaks

Around 9:26 PM on February 6, 2024, Officer Mark Michalski with the North Haledon Police Department responded to a report of a shoplifting at The Fresh Grocer (1068 High Mountain Road). He arrived on scene and made contact with store employees. He was led upstairs to the loss prevention office and informed that a woman attempted to steal steaks, a protein beverage, and Dove deodorant. The total value was determined to be $32.84.

The suspect, later identified as Anna Skvirskaya, told the officers that it was a mistake and that she intended to pay for the items. After the officers conferred about what to do, she was eventually placed under arrest for shoplifting because the store wanted to press charges. Her Anna was placed in the patrol car and transported to the North Haledon Police Department for further processing. She was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1) and eventually released with a summons pending her court appearance.

Court records indicate that on May 6, 2024, Anna’s charge of shoplifting was downgraded to Nuisance (Ordinance 659-3). As a result, Anna had to pay a total of $233 in fines.

Anna has previously been arrested in Scotch Plains on allegations of harassment (2C:33-4B) on August 26, 2018. This was preceded by another arrest on allegations of burglary (2C:18-2A(1)) in Franklin Lakes on August 16, 2016. She is currently facing charges of Simple Assault (2C:12-1A(3)) in Franklin Lakes from an alleged incident on January 11, 2026. In addition to her other arrests, she has been cited 2 times on May 29, 2024 and April 1, 2014 for failure to obtain a dog license (Ordinance 157-2) in Franklin Lakes.

Property records indicate that Anna currently resides in a home worth approximately $1.4 million, and she paid $15,977 in property taxes for the 2025 calendar year.
