Bud is unveiling its newest effort to win back its customer base after sales of its flagship product, Bud Light, plunged. This time, Bud Light is putting its money on a one-time ‘canceled’ comedian, a frequent Joe Rogan show guest, named Shane Gillis. Shane lost his ‘Saturday Night Live’ gig after some of his old podcast episodes made headlines.
He’s spoken out about Bud Light’s challenges in the past - telling Joe Rogan that it would be extremely difficult for Bud Light to recover from the brand damage it has suffered. Of course, that was before he got his new job promoting the challenged company.
So, here’s the question. Can Shane Gillis turn the tide for Bud? I wouldn’t bet on it. Bud Light has tried a lot of different commercials - featuring everyone from Travis Kelce to bankable country music stars. Hey, Bud Light even did a deal with Dana White at the UFC! And got Kid Rock to sing its praises on former fix New host Tucker Carlson’s new show. So far, none of these tactics seems to be working.
Granted, Budweiser — or AB InBev — which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker symbol BUD, is a massive global conglomerate with many many different brands to fall back on. Its stock price has even quite nearly recovered since its debacle… and yet? When ordering a beer becomes a symbol of a person’s politics — well, that’s just a hard place for Bud Light to be.
