On February 9th of 1999, 15-year-old old Ashley Ouellette went to a friends house for a sleepover. Before the sun came up the next morning, her body was found in Scarborough, Maine, by a motorist.
Ashley’s neck was broken and she had been strangled to death.
Investigators learned that the innocent night Ashley had told her parents about — was more than that. Police say Ashely and her friend met up with some classmates that night, and they went to a male friend’s home.
Police later found evidence of sexual activity at the house, as well as grass that looked similar to the one found on Ashley’s body.
No one was arrested, and police never named a suspect in the case, but one man claimed to have vital information.
Angel “Tony” Torres was a college student in Massachusetts visiting his family back in Maine. A few months after Ashley’s death, he allegedly told his parents he knew the people involved in the 15-year-old’s murder.
Then, he vanished, and Maine State Police suspected foul play.
On May 21, 1999, Tony was at a party with friends and never returned home. Investigators looking into Tony’s case hit a roadblock because a key witness in his disappearance died from a drug overdose in 2015.
Are Ashley’s murder and Tony’s disappearance connected — and if so, how?
Their families and the Maine state police are asking for help solving these crimes.
Tony’s family is offering a reward with hopes of finding their son’s remains.
