Tulsi Gabbard Addresses Hawaiʻi Democrats at 2018 State Convention in Waikoloa

Kailua-Kona, HI—Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) joined delegates from across Hawaiʻi at today’s Democratic Party State Convention in Waikoloa on Hawaiʻi Island. She spoke about working together with the same aloha spirit that the late U.S. Senator Daniel Akaka embodied throughout his life to move our state forward and serve the people of Hawaiʻi and our planet.

In her remarks, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard shared what Memorial Day means to her and spoke about the true cost of war on those who serve and on the American people, saying, “Every dollar spent on counterproductive regime change wars is a dollar we are not spending to rebuild and invest in our communities right here at home—to ensure everyone has access to quality healthcare through Medicare for All, ensure our teachers have what they need to provide our keiki with the best possible education, ensure every one of our neighbors can access truly affordable housing, ensure our residents have clean drinking water and our environment is protected, improve our crumbling infrastructure, invest in clean renewable energy, care for our kūpuna and our veterans, and so much more.”

Tulsi Gabbard is a Democrat who has served as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii’s Second Congressional District since 2013. She has been calling for an end to superdelegates in the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination process and open Democratic primaries and caucuses. Tulsi Gabbard is a Major in the Hawaiʻi Army National Guard and a veteran who has served on two Middle East deployments. She is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
