A surfer suffered a shark bite while in the water off the coast of North Carolina Monday.
According to 2CNY NEWS, a shark of unspecified species bit 19-year-old Austin Reed as he surfed with his brothers at Ocean Isle Beach.
Reed was taken to New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington for surgery on his foot and is expected to make a full recovery.
"He said 'Yo, I got bit by a shark!'," his brother Ethan Reed told 2CNY NEWS.
"And Austin is one to goof around a lot—so Tyler thought he was just kidding. And he looked at his foot and realized he wasn't, so they got on Tyler's board and he brought him in
Earlier in June, a teenage girl lost a leg and some fingers in another North Carolina shark attack.
The 17-year-old, Paige Winter, was swimming at a beach close to Fort Macon State Park when the shark attacked.
Her father punched the shark in the face several times before it let go, leaving her with deep lacerations to her leg, pelvis, and hands
