6:55Now PlayingTwentythree arrests in the Longworth House Office Building on December 4, 2017 brought the arrest total to 59 in civil disobedience protests that began with the disruption of the Senate Budget Committee on November 28. TYT's Eric Byler () spoke to several of the protesters and documented their arrests.
Arrestee Rachel Earnest explained that a "Pay as you go" law enacted in 2010 means that Congressional Republicans will trigger massive cuts to vital programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security by adding between $1 trillion and $1.5 trillion to the federal debt. Although the tax reform plan includes $4.5 trillion in tax increases on the poor, the middle class, and the working class in order to support $6 trillion in tax cuts for the very wealthy and for corporations, the majority of protesters were healthcare advocates, many of whom had health issues of their own.
