Doris Kearns Goodwin is one of America's foremost presidential historians and biographers, having authored multiple New York Times best-sellers, including Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream, The Fitzgeralds and The Kennedys; No Ordinary Time: Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II; Wait Till Next Year: A Memoir; and Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. On Nov. 20, 2013, Kearns Goodwin—a member of the IOP's Board of Advisors—spoke about previous works, as well as her most recent book The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft & the Golden Age of Journalism, a masterful and deeply insightful study of presidents—freshly told through the decades-long and complicated friendship of Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft. She sat down with to the IOP to talk about what politics means to her.
