The latest failure came as tens of thousands of migrants continue to cross the border weekly, with little hope for jobs, permanent housing and opportunities.
Is there a path forward for immigration, border security and asylum reform? While most Americans agree change is needed, the paths they seek differ greatly.
On one side: Doug Ducey, the former Republican governor of Arizona, who experienced a surge of migrants under three presidents over his eight years in office and joined some other border state governors in busing migrants north. On the other side: former Representative Luis Gutiérrez, an Illinois Democrat and long standing critic of American immigration policies and who has led a nationwide effort to help undocumented immigrants become naturalized citizens.
