as posted by the channelSpeaking to the press on the opening day of the conference, Yvo de Boer said that the negotiations over the next two weeks will be on track if they keep focused on a common way forward towards a concrete and realistic goal at the UN Climate Change Conference in Cancún at the end of this year.
The Bonn talks are designed to pick up on issues that were not resolved at the end of 2009 in Copenhagen. From Tuesday, governments will begin discussing a new text which can serve as the basis for negotiations.
Mr. de Boer warned that whilst the Copenhagen meeting may have postponed an outcome for at least a year, it had not postponed the impacts of climate change.
He called on industrialized countries to fulfil the financial pledge they made at Copenhagen, whereby developed countries promised to deploy USD 30 billion from now to 2012 in short-term finance to kick start climate action in developing countries.
