Today's case begins with Grizwold, in which the state of Connecticut made it a crime to dispense birth control, even to married couples. You could get a year in jail for using contraception. Seriously - that was a thing. Anyway, the decision regarding birth control obviously doesn't address the topic of abortion as such, but the legal rationales use in this case would later form a major part of the legal rationales of the cases that follows.
