Sarah Boone, a 46-year-old woman from Florida, is on trial for the second-degree murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., who died in 2020 after Boone allegedly zipped him inside a suitcase and left him there overnight. Boone claimed they were playing hide-and-seek, but videos found on her phone showed her laughing as Torres begged for help. The trial has faced numerous delays and Boone has had multiple attorneys. She plans to use the "battered woman defense," citing a history of domestic abuse in their relationship. If Sarah Boone is found guilty of second-degree murder, she faces a minimum sentence of 22 and a half years in prison. She had previously rejected a plea deal that would have reduced her sentence to 15 years if she pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
