Chad Zielinski, Bishop of New Ulm, reflects on the figures and moments that have shaped his vocation, from the witness of Saint Photina in the Gospel of John, to his years of military chaplaincy in the Air Force, to his ministry among Native Alaskan communities as the bishop of Fairbanks and previous chairman of the Subcommittee on Native American Affairs.
During his time as Subcommittee Chairman, Bp. Zielinski worked on the document: "Keeping Christ’s Sacred Promise: A Pastoral Framework for Indigenous Ministry" which was approved by the body of bishops at their June 2024 Assembly. In this conversation, Bishop Zielinski shares how his episcopal motto, “He must increase, I must decrease,” continues to guide his service to the Church. Bishop Zielinski currently serves as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Catholic Home Missions, which supports poor and rural dioceses in the United States.
