Kamissa Camara on Burkina Faso and France's Interventions in the Sahel

Kamissa Camara, the senior visiting expert for the Sahel at the U.S. Institute of Peace, appeared on CNN International’s One World With Zain Asher to discuss Burkina Faso’s recent expulsion of French troops. Camara explained the background of France’s intervention, at the invitation of Mali and Burkina Faso, in the Sahel to combat terrorism and its projection of military power in the region over the last several years, and how the political landscape there has shifted following coups and inroads by Russia’s Wagner Group. She also discussed the public perceptions, particularly shared by young people, of France as a former colonial power.
