as posted by the channelWillie Murphy was guaranteed to win all her events in the 2018 World Natural Powerlifting Federation Upstate New York Championships. At 81-years-old, she was the only competitor in her age division.
But she still had a goal. Deadlift 230 pounds. That’s more than twice her weight, and would be a personal best.
So she waited for her turn with the other musclebound folks in the basement of the Main Street Armory, comparing biceps and running in place. A couple of competitors wore tee-shirts that said “Pain Clinic” or “House of Pain.” Murphy was wearing an orange tee shirt with the phrase “80 Plus Fit,” hand-lettered by her 12-year-old neighbor.
