1. Get up early. Stay out late. Soft, warm morning and evening light makes for the best images.
2. Follow the rule of thirds. Imagine a tic-tac-toe grid over your image. Place your subject where the lines intersect.
3. Zoom with your feet. Don't be afraid to climb, duck or even lie down to get the right angle.
4. Fill the frame. Don't leave too much open space, and don't be afraid to shoot part of a subject.
5. Look for leading lines. Lines leading into the center of the frame are pleasing to the eye.
6. Focus on the eyes. When photographing people or animals, the focus point should be on the eye.
7. Know your camera. Learn the settings in your backyard before your trip.
8. Invest in a travel tripod. You'll have greater flexibility to get creative. 9. Learn to post-process. Editing your photos isn't "cheating" — it's part of the process!
10. Put the camera down. Don't forget to enjoy the experience for yourself.
