A majority of Americans did not take a vacation longer than four nights in 2018, according to a study by Allianz Global Assistance. These “micro-cations” seem to be the new travel trend, especially among millennials. Here are some tips for making the most of your micro-vacation.
1. Plan ahead. Studies show we derive happiness from the anticipation of an experience.
2. Make use of public holidays. Escape for four days while only taking one day off work.
3. Stay in your time zone. Don’t let jet lag derail your limited vacation time.
4. Fly east to west. If you are changing time zones, gain hours by heading west.
5. Fly overnight. Leave after work and land at your vacation destination in the morning.
6. Choose a hub city. Direct flights can save significant time.
7. Consider a staycation. There’s nothing wrong with exploring your hometown through tourist eyes.
