In a letter sent to members on Monday, Jordan said "the principles that unite us as Republicans are far greater than the disagreements that divide us."
If Jordan succeeds, he would be second in line to the presidency. He would be the first speaker of the House from Ohio since John Boehner, who left the job in 2015.
