Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Tenn., said Americans "demand answers" from Cheatle. The director, in excerpts from her prepared remarks released ahead of the hearing, says "we failed" and takes “full responsibility” for security lapses.
“I will move heaven and earth to ensure an incident like July 13 does not happen again," Cheatle says. “Our mission is not political. It is literally a matter of life and death, as the tragic events on July 13th remind us."
