3:30:17Now PlayingLuigi Mangione, accused of fatally shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a busy Manhattan street, agreed Thursday to be extradited to New York where he will face charges that could put him in prison for the rest of his life.
Mangione, 26, who appeared in court clean-shaven and wearing an orange jumpsuit, said few words in the brief hearing. He is charged in New York with one count of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism, two counts of second-degree murder, including a count of murder in the second degree as an act of terrorism, and several weapons charges, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's Office.
The extradition hearing was delayed about 35 minutes while lawyers discussed terms. During the hearing, defense lawyer Thomas Dickey said the extradition order had been customized to ensure Mangione's rights were protected.
