as posted by the channelThe Smithsonian Institute’s museums, research centers, and the National Zoo remain open this week despite the government shutdown that started at midnight Oct. 1.
The Smithsonian, a federal government entity, posted on its website that it will use money from the last fiscal year’s budget to stay open at least through Monday, Oct. 6.
The Smithsonian has 17 museums in the Washington, DC, area, including the African American History and Culture Museum, the American Indian Museum, and the Air and Space Museum.
The Smithsonian also has the National Zoo in Washington, DC, plus an American Indian Museum and the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum, both in New York City. Only Cooper Hewitt has an entry fee. A handful of other locations require free passes for admission.
