Before shutdown vote, Grijalva delivers speech in Congress then signs Epstein discharge petition

Democrat Adelita Grijalva won the Arizona special election to fill the U.S. House seat left vacant by her late father, Raúl Grijalva. The swearing in took place seven weeks after her special election victory to take her late father's place in Congress in September. The delay drew widespread rebukes from Democrats.

Her addition guarantees there may be enough votes in the House to force a vote on a measure to release more files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

While the government shutdown seems on track to end, it will take several more steps for it to become official.

After the funding bill passed in the Senate, it is now sent to the House. There, it is expected to pass because of Republicans' narrow majority, although most Democrats will likely vote against it.
