President Donald Trump said on April 1 that the federal government could not take care of daycare as it was "fighting wars," hours before addressing the nation on the Iran war.

Trump added that it was the responsibility of states to fund daycare as well as other services like Medicaid. Days later, Trump requested a 10% cut in non-defense spending for the 2027 fiscal year and a massive $500 billion increase in the military budget, according to Reuters.
