Trump said at a White House press conference that the shooting at the White House press dinner was a "rather traumatic experience" for first lady Melania Trump, who was on the dais at the White House Correspondents' dinner at the time of the shooting.

The president again said the dinner would be rescheduled. "We're not going to cancel things out, because we can't do that. We wanted to stay tonight," Trump told reporters. "I fought like hell to stay, but it was protocol."

He indicated that Secret Service was unsure if the shooter acted alone.
