Horton, Dean of the School of Energy and Environment at City University of Hong Kong, told USA TODAY Co. partner Reuters that climate change likely played a leading role by increasing glacier melt and destabilising mountain slopes. While landslides are common in the tectonically active Himalayas, he said the scale of this event was exceptional.
