Cox is out promoting his new book, "Off-Ramp," about ending political polarization, and sat down with ABC News' This Week. Asked about Trump's comment at Charlie Kirk's funeral—that he hates his opponents and doesn't want the best for them—Cox praised the president for being "honest." Apparently that same standard doesn't extend to Trump's false claims about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio, or calling a female reporter "piggy."
Cox went from refusing to vote for Trump in 2016 and 2020 to becoming one of his most reliable defenders — a shift he says was sparked by the 2024 assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, but one that's also come with a $1 billion pledge for the Great Salt Lake and a seat in the Oval Office when Trump signed the order shrinking Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears. Disagree Better made Cox famous. Selling out to Trump is what's kept him relevant.
