American runner Nathan Martin made history at the Los Angeles Marathon, winning the closest finish in the race’s history by just 0.01 seconds over Kenya’s Michael Kimani Kamau. Fans watched in awe as Martin chased down Kamau in the final stretch, turning the marathon into a heart-stopping finish.

The 36-year-old shared his strategy: “I made an actual move five miles out… when I saw no one else was picking up the pace. I decided I needed to push. At a mile and a half to go, I could see the leader, and with 800 meters to go, I was thinking, ‘I’m catching him.’”
