Η Ελίζα Μπενβενίστε μίλησε με την Αρετή Μακρυγεώργου, Ελληνίδα δερματολόγο στο Δημόσιο Σύστημα Υγείας της Σκωτίας, η οποία συμμετέχει ως εθελόντρια στη Φάση 2 στη Γλασκόβη, και έχει πάρει τις δύο δόσεις του εμβολίου της Οξφόρδης.
Στη Φάση 1 και 2 των δοκιμών δεν παρουσιάστηκαν στους εθελοντές ανεπιθύμητες ενέργειες που σχετίζονταν με το εμβόλιο. Η Φάση 3 που διεξάγεται σε 30.000 εθελοντές στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, τις ΗΠΑ, τη Βραζιλία και τη Νότια Αφρική, έχει τεθεί σε αναστολή.
Σύμφωνα με την AstraZeneca, σε έναν από τους εθελοντές της Φάσης 3 στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο εμφανίστηκε μία ενδεχομένως ανεξήγητη ασθένεια. Ανεξάρτητη επιτροπή θα εξετάσει αν αυτό σχετίζεται με τη λήψη του εμβολίου της Οξφόρδης.
Αν τελικά συνεχιστούν οι δοκιμές, υπολογίζεται ότι συνολικά 50.000 εθελοντές θα έχουν πάρει μέρος μέχρι την ολοκλήρωση της έρευνας.
